150 YEARS: SAURY COOPERAGE , SINCE 1873 – Marc SAURY

The 1980s were synonymous with development and a new production site for Saury Cooperage.

In 1983, Saury family acquired land in Saint-Pantaléon-de-Larche, while Marcel Saury was still running cooperage. After Marcel’s retirement in 1986, his son Marc expanded production site with construction of a new building (1988).

The Saint-Pantaléon-de-Larche site was expanded again in 1994 with an acquisition of an adjoining plot of land, on which a new building was erected, doubling size of the original building.

In 2000, the parcel housing stave-wood refining yard was acquired.

In parallel with the development of Saint-Pantaléon-de-Larche production site under the direction of Marc Saury, Pascal Collotte* creates a marketing and sales structure in Bordeaux in 1992. This strategy gave decisive impetus to the company which, with help of a solid team and a dynamic sales network in France and abroad, multiplied its sales by 20 in less than 15 years.

In 1993, company sales began to be exported to the American market. Thirty years later, Tonnellerie Saury barrels are exported to every country where vines are grown.

Finally, in 2006, Tonnellerie Saury acquired the former Martell cooperage in Cognac (now Tonnellerie Leroi), thus creating the “Saury Group”. Forming “Saury Group”, the company expanded into complementary markets such as barrels for eaux-de-vie and spirits.

*Everyone at Saury Cooperage shares in the grief of Pascal Collotte’s family and friends, and offers its sincere condolences to entire family.
